Klang Valley roads are about to get a lot clearer, or so we hope!

As you’ve seen in the news, the second phase of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) line will soon begin operating on 17 July and the corporation foresees up to 160,000 less vehicles on the road every day if 400,000 people were to utilise the services.

That’s quite a major drop!

MRT’s Strategic Communication and Stakeholder Relation director Datuk Najmuddin Abdullah told Bernama that the company is confident that the number of MRT users will increase by ten folds in the next few months once phase two opens, from an average of 15,000 passengers daily to 150,000 passengers.

Datuk Najmuddin Abdullah addressing the press.
“One MRT train with four cars can carry 1,200 people comfortably. Imagine the space needed for 1,200 cars on the road, that alone will create traffic,” he said.

“But if these 1,200 users abandon their cars at home and take the train, imagine the space that can be emptied on the road and we can save a lot of the by-product from that space saving.”

Since the first phase of the SBK line, which covers a distance of 21km from Sungai Buloh to Semantan, started operating last December, MRT recorded almost two million passengers so far.

In an effort to encourage more people to take the train, MRT has built 14 multi-storey open-air parking lots with 8,000 bays at several stations along the 51km SBK line.

There will also be 300 feeder buses that can accommodate 62 passengers each to shutter people to the nearest station every 10 minutes.

You don't have to worry about walking from station to station with these MRT feeder buses.
Another reason MRT is having a positive outlook on the public’s response is its more affordable fares compared to what people have to spend on petrol and toll driving from one place to another, and not forgetting the extra time and stress they have to go through in traffic.

The second phase of the SBK line consists of 19 new stations: Muzium Negara, Pasar Seni, Bukit Bintang, Tun Razak Exchange Centre, Maluri, Cochrane, Taman Pertama, Taman Midah, Taman Connaught, Taman Mutiara, Suntex, Sri Raya, Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Batu Sebelas Cheras, Bukit Dukung, Sungai Jernih, Merdeka, Stadium Kajang, and Kajang station.

Seven of the stations are located underground and each train will operate at a frequency of 3.5 minutes.

The whole SBK line stretching 51km has a total of 24 elevation stations and seven underground.
We don't know about you but we'll definitely be the first ones to test out the new MRT line! (Even though it doesn't travel to our office... tsk tsk)
